Home Security 101
More than 65,000 homes are broken into each year in the Montreal area. Did you know that 50% of people move after a break in? why? They never feel safe in their home again.
Simple home security tips:
- If you are moving into a new home: change the locks on all doors. Who knows who else has the keys and there is no easier quicker entry to a home than with a key. Replace the locks with pick resistant locks. The locks you can buy at your local hardware or DIY store are NOT pick resistant. Contact a locksmith and be assured that you and your belongings are safe.
- If there is not an alarm system present, have one installed. Alarm systems are monitored by a central station. In the event of a break in or fire the authorities can be dispatched. Make sure your alarm is monitored by a ULC rated station. Not only will you be safe, you’ll save money on your insurance.
- Install Security Window Film on basement and ground floor windows. More than 80% of break ins occur through ground-floor glass. Security Window Film prohibits easy entry to your home.
- If you going away, ensure that your walk/driveway is shoveled, and that your mail is picked up. Criminals use simple signs to let them know which house is occupied and which is not.
